POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Controller serves as a member of middle management and thus provides functional, technical and process leadership. The Assistant Controller works directly with the Division Controller in preparing and reporting financial statements conforming to principles of accounting and regulatory requirements. It is his or her job to ensure that the prepared financial statements are in line with management's requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversees the monthly closing process, including preparing and recording monthly journal entries. Leads, directs, and reviews the work of the Corporate Accountant and the Accounts Payable Clerks, signs checks as necessary.
- Coordinates month-end and year-end reporting, prepares accruals and schedules, and submits monthly and ad hoc financial reports. Conducts general ledger account reconciliations and analysis. Completes cash and bank reconciliation.
- Assists with periodic/annual audit and tax preparation.
- Prepares and remits monthly & annual GET filings, as well as other tax filings (i.e. Form 2290 Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return).
- Assists the Division Controller in managing the Accounting Department and directing the Company's accounting functions which includes establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Assists in special projects when requested.
- Works with management to establish and document Company policies and procedures; assures internal control compliance by ensuring that the proper policies and procedures are being followed.
- Works directly with 3rd parties (i.e. financial institution, broker, etc.) and provides information requested.
- Knowledge of Lease Accounting helpful

SUPERVISORY SKILLS - Carries out assigned supervisory responsibilities of the Accounting Department including directly supervising and managing the Corporate Accountant and two Accounts Payable Clerks.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - B.S. /B.A. degree from a four-year college or university in either finance or accounting. 5+ years related experience and/or training. CPA or other professional certification preferred. Knowledge of GAAP, accrual basis accounting, fixed asset accounting and tax filing requirements a must.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Uses high-level communication skills to respond to questions from co-workers, managers, 3rd parties.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Strong mathematical background and the ability to calculate figures and amounts (i.e. percentages, etc.)
OTHER SKILLS/CERTIFICATION - Microsoft Suite-Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel (Intermediate and Advanced); proficiency in accounting packages desirable
REASONING ABILITY - Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills which proves useful when performing account fluctuation analysis

Works normal business hours of 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday most of the time. Extends working hours into evenings and weekends during seasonal busy times. Spends time in climate-controlled office setting looking at computer screens and keyboarding. REMOTE WORK IS NOT AVAILABLE.
